Speech on the occasion to celebrate and commemorate the
20th Anniversary of a martyr and revolutionary Dr. Yusuf Mohammed Dadoo.
The SACP Gauteng Provincial Secretary, Vishwas Satgar I welcome you all to Mogale City Local Municipality to this memorial lecture of Dr. Yusuf Dadoo. It is my pleasure to host this memorial lecture together with the South African Communist Party to remember the legacy that Dr. Dadoo left for us. Dr. Dadoo was one of the remarkable leaders of our nation, who made an invaluable contribution to the struggle against apartheid and injustice. Dr. Dadoo's leadership was a kind of leadership full of passion and commitment. He was a selfless individual. These are attributes that we require in our organizations these days, be it in government and business. Our nation needs leaders of the caliber of Dr. Dadoo. Leadership that is visible and accountable. When we have such leadership, we are certain to turn this country and our city around. We have an opportunity to be an exemplary nation in Africa and the world, if we nurture these attributes. In Mogale City Local Municipality, this memorial lecture serves as a call for us to follow in the footsteps of this remarkable man. We have a potential to produce leaders that can make a great contribution to our community and society. I just want to acknowledge the Dadoo family - they are fortunate to have had an opportunity of interacting with such a towering intellectual and committed community worker. This lecture, perhaps would serve as a formal and public acknowledgement of your contribution to the liberation of South Africa. It is appropriate to remember Dr. Dadoo in the form of this lecture and furthermore document the history of our struggle for democracy. We have a rich history of the struggle that should be written and told to our children and grandchildren. We should project this history without any shame. We should continually honour our heroes and heroines in all walks of life. People who have made sacrificial contributions to our communities in Mogale City and South Africa in general. Let's celebrate the lives of our legends, stalwarts, comrades and champions. Let us honour them. I commend the SACP for organising this memorial lecture in remembrance of a gallant son of the soil. Dr. Dadoo was a product of Mogale City and we are proud to be associated with this shining icon of our struggle. Please enjoy the lecture. I thank you.
