Speech delivered by Executive Mayor Advocate Lentswe Mokgatle on the occasion of Bethany House Trust's Award ceremony
Antoinette Jonker I am happy to be here tonight to acknowledge and honour sponsors that are making it possible for Bethany House Trust to continue caring for our children. We have a responsibility to protect our children and provide an environment that is warm so that they can achieve their best potential in life. Bethany House Trust and Child in Crisis Foundation are certainly making a difference. South Africa is blessed to have the Bethany House of Trust, which is dedicated to providing access to education and welfare for children and the youth. We are able to develop our nation when we nurture our children and youth socially, economically and spiritually. This development will help to prepare our children to make a meaningful contribution to society. We at Mogale City Local Municipality congratulate all sponsors who have contributed financially and in many other forms towards the noble work of the Bethany House Trust. The trust has shown how we should care for our children and also attract goodwill of citizens to reconnect towards children. When we have a society that cares and has empathy towards children then we are guaranteed to build a strong society. Children should grow in an environment where there is no rape and molestation. It is scary to see children as young as nine being raped by close relatives. Our children and youth must grow up in a peaceful and warm environment. Our families should nurture and provide safe havens for children and youth. Then we would have given them a good reason to be proudly South African. One of the Proudly South African mission is to create quality life for our children and youth. The best gift we can give to our children is to provide them with an environment to project their fullest potential. Mogale City Local Municipality subscribes to the values of being Proudly South African, which are against exploitation, and degradation of lives of other people. The Proudly South African ethos is all about affording people with opportunities to be employable so that they can provide for their families. We need to give children and the youth an opportunity to be Proudly South African at the formative years of their lives. When we show that we care, then they will have confidence in our country and their future. I am aware of the challenges and problems faced by children and youth today. The problems range from rape, abuse, abandonment of children after birth and children whose parents die of HIV/AIDS. It is encouraging to note that Bethany House Trust has projects directly responding to these challenges. It is heartening to observe a Non-Governmental Organisation like Bethany House Trust and all its sponsors focusing on battered children and youth. What you are doing is commendable because you
We salute all sponsors who support the mission of Bethany House Trust and the Child in Crisis Foundation. Your contribution in making South Africa and Mogale City a better place to live in for our children and youth is much appreciated. Your Corporate Social Responsibility commitment is noticed. It is partnerships like these that will bear results for a brighter future for our children.
I thank you.
