I would like to commend the Centre for Youth Development for taking up a challenge to research the subject of substance and drug abuse amongst our young people in Mogale City.

We are happy that the research is completed and can lift up key findings from the report on how we can intervene effectively to address this issue.

It is encouraging to see organizations like the CYD taking a keen interest in the welfare of young people of Mogale City.

This issue demands that bodies like Mogale City Local Youth Forum and other youth related organizations should join in to mitigate against the effects of substance and drug abuse.

In our intervention, we should work together with parents, schools and churches to be effective in arresting the negative effects of drugs and substance abuse.

Programme Director, it will be powerful that in our intervention strategies that we involve young people, who have conquered substance and drug abuse to be spokespersons and ambassadors of our campaign.

They can be motivational speakers to encourage young people that drug and substance abuse can be beaten.

The report is launched today to show our young people that we care. This is the primary reason for us presenting this report to the public.

Our message to young people is that we care and we want them to be successful adults in all areas of their lives.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all the young people that distributed the questionnaires, that indeed well done for a sterling job.

I am happy that through this research we can deal with the soul of our young people. Our young people are assets of our city and we need to nurture them.

To all the respondents, we also want to thank them for participating in the research. Their inputs will provide us with information that will help us to deal with this problem. We want to thank all respondents and participants who made this research possible.

Programme Director, I am pleased to announce that today we are signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the municipality, Umsombovu Youth Fund and Centre for Youth Development.

The agreement will give us an opportunity to advance youth development. Therefore, affording us the foundation to develop practical programmes to build young people economically.

I thank you.
