Ladies and Gentlemen

It is my pleasure to be part of the launch of the Mogale City Enrichment Project. This project is a noble community based initiative driven by local professionals from a wide spectrum of fields, whose purpose and focus is to uplift people's quality of life.

I am happy to learn that professional people will be championing this awesome project. It is high time that professionals plough back in their communities. In fact when reinvesting in communities this is not only about money. The precious asset is time.

The challenges of our city calls for us to respond to the scourge of HIV/AIDS, we need to find ways of impacting positively the youth. Our city needs to have more and more of our children enrolling for Mathematics, Science, Accounting including exposing them to business skills.

Our society has to respond sensitively to the needs of the physically disabled. It is evident that successful people and individuals can be produced if we have a solid mentorship and role model programme. I have learnt that the Itireleng School of the Disabled and the Emily Jordan Hospice Centre will be special projects to receive financial and in-kind support.

Programme Director, our young people can be inspired through such programmes. The mentorship can permeate also in the business training programmes of this project.

We have legislation in our country that outlaws discrimination based on disability. At the same time, government and business are urged to have buildings that are friendly to disabled people.

This project came at the right time and it is a practical demonstration that people are committed to make this country work. It is only by working hand-in-hand with stakeholders like the municipality that challenges of the next decade of democracy will be overcome.

Mogale City can partner with this project in many areas that pertains to youth development. Mogale Foundation is also a key strategic partner that could leverage the work of the project.

We have to fight poverty and reduce unemployment by encouraging our communities to start small to medium businesses. The future of our country lies in the small business sector to creat jobs.

I am convinced that this project is an idea that came and was born at the right time. I want to congratulate the management committee for sacrificing their time and energy to offer their services to the community of Kagiso.

I thank you.
