Ladies and Gentlemen

I welcome you to Mogale City and hope that you have had two days of interesting dialogue and debate around issues of security and policing. Mogale City is a growing city and it has become paramount that we create a secure and safe environment for business and communities that live in the city. Public Safety and municipal police officials play an important role in stabilising our environment.

It is commendable that a workshop of this nature has been put together to share experiences and engage in peer learning with regards to policing. Today, we cannot afford to live as islands from each other because our countries are interlinked economically, politically and socially. This has been re-emphasised through the New Partnership for Africa's Development.

Nepad opens up an opportunity for us to share best practices but furthermore to be strategically competitive in how we govern, lead and do business with one another. I am of the opinion that policing is not exempted from the Nepad campaign.

Right here at Mogale City, we have a vision to be a city, where people can come to visit, live and invest. I have learnt that you visited the Cradle of Humankind. Now, it would be appreciated if you could make Mogale City your second home. This is not a bad idea. You shall have great company in this city. Hugh Masekela has made this city his home and a host of other leading figures are settling in Mogale City.

We owe it to our children to bring about safe and stable environments, where children can grow up positively and innocently without the threat of molestation and rape. We have a challenge to build peaceful lasting foundations for our societies and cities. We owe it to our children and young people to safeguard them and protect them from many evils.

With these thoughts, it is my privilege to welcome you to Mogale City, a city named after Chief Mogale, who was an icon of struggle and a strong character of leadership. It is one of our values at Mogale City that we shall be a city that embracing values of bold leadership and accountability. This city has given birth to leading lights like the respected Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Yes, welcome and enjoy the remaining part of your workshop.

I thank you.
