Mogale City honours
Pule "Ace" Ntsoelengoe

Mogale City Local Municipality is honouring Pule "Ace" Ntsoelengoe, a resident of Mogale City for his outstanding achievements in the world of soccer. We have decided to honour this son of the soill before he leaves for the United States of America for his induction. His induction in the US National Soccer Hall of Fame takes place in New York on Saturday 25 October this year.

We felt that Ntsoelengoe should be afforded a befitting send-off. Hence, municipalities in the West Rand have joined us to formally congratulate this soccer legend. It is also for this reason that the Executive Mayor Advocate Lentswe Mokgatle rallied us to honour Ntsoelengoe. This is a milestone achievement in Ntsoelengoe's life. Therefore, it is imperative that we honour people for their great achievements whilst they are still alive.

A variety of activities have been planned to honour Ace Ntsoelengoe. Since Monday 22 September to 30 September, the School Soccer Tournament called the Ace Ntsoelengoe Hall Of Fame Knock-out Challenge was underway, where the Under 13 and Under 17 teams from Tarlton, Hekpoort, Magaliesburg, Kagiso, Munsieville. Youths from Randfontein and Merafong Local Municipalities participated in this prestigious tournament.

Kenneth "The Horse" Mokgojoa, the national assistant coach of Under 23 team affectionately known as Amagluglug, was the Technical Director of the tournament assisted by Cappy Modise. Martin Mphahlwa of Sports and Recreation Department of Mogale City Local Municipality managed the whole School Soccer Tournament project.

About 2000 school children and youth attended the tournament that took place during the school holiday period. When Ntsoelengoe attended the final game on Tuesday 30 September, the school children and youth were in awe to see their soccer star. The young players were excited to see Ntsoelengoe.

It is my pleasure to announce that Kaizer Chiefs' Under 13 and 17 Development teams will play against the selected teams of respective ages on Saturday 4 October at Johan van Loots stadium. The winners of this Ace Ntsoelengoe Hall Of Fame Challenge will receive a floating trophy plus Gold Medals and runners-up will get Silver medals. Ntsoelengoe is the first South African and African to receive this highest honour. He is an export that the West Rand has produced to the international soccer world. Therefore we want to celebrate Ace as an individual who grew up from humble beginnings and now is a superstar recognised and acknowledged by his peers for his achievements, which might have been forgotten.

Mogale City Local Municipality will be hosting a Gala Dinner in honour of Ace Ntsoelengoe on Wednesday 8 October 2003 at Centenary Hall in Krugersdorp. The tables at the Gala Dinner are sold at R5000 a table seating 10 people. The proceeds of the Gala Dinner will be used to kick-start the sports development programme that Ntsoelengoe will champion in Mogale City and the West Rand.

It is our belief that our young people should be motivated in different sporting codes to be future sporting heroes and heroines. We are committed to excellence in sports and Ntsoelengoe has been an inspiration to the youth in Mogale City. We are fortunate to have a sporting icon like Ace in our midst.

We would like to take this opportunity to announce that Ntsoelengoe has been appointed as a member of the Mogale City Mayoral Trust. He shall be responsible for sports development in the West Rand. The Board of Trustees of the Mayoral Trust have adopted the sports development programme that Ntsoelengoe will champion. The objective for the sports development programme is specifically to establish a sports academy from which we could produce future sports stars to represent South Africa in national and international competitions.

I invite you to visit the Ace Ntsoelengoe's exhibition at the Mogale City Museum.

I thank you.
