Website for Lesedi Cultural Village

30 March 2004

By Mogale City Reporter

The continuous addition of new facilities and upgrading of products has made a website essential to showcase one of Mogale City's hottest tourist attractions - the Lesedi Cultural Village.

Besides a 90-second video tour, www.lesedi.com also shows interactive 360º x 360º images of the cultural village near Hartbeespoort Dam, 40 minutes north of Johannesburg. Latest happenings and special offers on conference packages are listed and there is a downloadable electronic brochure for future reference.

Lesedi's general manager, Etienne Soine, says the website is the ideal tool for updating developments as they happen, like the recently added bedrooms which have increased the total number of guest rooms, managed by Protea Hotels, to 30.

Another addition is the Ndebele village, which brings to five the number of traditional homesteads - the others being Pedi, Zulu, Xhosa and Basotho. At Lesedi visitors get the opportunity to experience a traditional rural family setting.

A brand new Gaditshwene conference room, which accommodates up to 120 delegates, and is a token of the Tswana culture; is the fourth to be added. The Ndaba Nkulu thatched rondavel accommodates up to 70 delegates; the Nile Room comfortably seats 40 delegates on cushions with low tables for an alternative type of conference, and Musi's Ndebele Theatre accommodates up to 180 delegates. The theatre is fully equipped with a cinema-size screen, Betacam and VHS projection equipment and has excellent acoustics. Double doors ensure that products of all descriptions - including a vehicle - can be taken into the amphitheatre for product launches and presentations.

The Nyama Choma restaurant extends the cultural experience to the rest of Africa and is divided into three sections: North Africa, which seats 40 people; East Africa, which seats 60; and South Africa with 100 seats. There is also a traditional ingoma, a huge indoor hut used for buffet or barbecue-style functions, and an outdoor boma. Both bomas accommodate 120 people.

Day tours start at 11.30am and at 4.30pm and a lunch only option is available.

Lesedi is situated on the R512 en route to Sun City, 10km north of Lanseria airport.
