WATCH out Tiger Woods - two Mogale City golfers are hot on your heels!

Local cab driver Moses Mhlabya and Harry Gundana, who is unemployed, took first place in the Mayoral Golf Day at the Krugersdorp Golf Club on Friday, 5 November.

With rain threatening, the two managed to drive into the lead and take home Nokia 8600 cell phones for their efforts. "I am over the moon that we both won. We produced our best performance and it paid off," said a jubilant Mhlabya.

In second position were Cecil Goodgall and Morontsi Matsobane, while Landumthini Mayeza and Vusi Mathe came in third. The four runners-up won golf bags for their efforts.

Some 130 golfers - including former North West premier Popo Molefe, the executive mayor of Merafong, Les van Rooyen, CEO of the Mogale Foundation, Tula Dlamini, and former Kaizer Chiefs star Donald "Ace" Khuse - took to the greens during the annual event.

Mogale City's municipal manager, Itumeleng Mokate, was also seen driving her way through the tough 18 holes.

Other City representatives included Finance Executive, Director Colleen Robinson; Information Technology Deputy Director, Pravesh Maharaj; and Public Safety Director, Conel Mckay.

According to mayoral spokesperson, Dante Mashile, the day was intended to raise funds for the City's sports development programme, the Mogale Foundation.

"It's a section 21 company that has been formed to make a difference in the development landscape of Mogale City," Mashile said.

Mogale City mayor, Lentswe Mokgatle, congratulated the winners and other participants during the prize giving ceremony at the end of the day.

He urged parents and teachers to teach children more about golf. "The making of a Tiger starts at a tender age," he said. "Golf is not expensive and we need time to teach young stars".

The mayor took the opportunity to reflect on the life of the late councillor, Moses "Bushy" Kelobonye, who died in a recent car crash.

"Today we remember a young man, Bushy Kelobonye, who understood what we are doing", he said, describing the late councillor as "tolerant and generous".
