Welcome Christmas
with carols evening

6 December, 2005

By Rose Setshoge

WHAT would December be like without Carols by Candlelight? It just wouldn't be Christmas. The annual Carols by Candlelight evening at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden is on 10 and 11 December.

Carols start at 8pm, but from 5pm the Concert Band and the Zambezi Marimba Band will be performing. Children's entertainment is also on the cards, and Father Christmas is planning a special visit.

"The objective of the event is to raise money for Employability, a non-profit organisation working with people with disabilities, as well as for Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden. The money will be shared among both organisations," said Anthony Yoko, one of the organisers.

Entrance is R25 per adult, R15 for senior citizens and R10 for students and learners. Children under six are free. Botanical Society members pay R10 per adult and R5 per student and learner.

People are urged to take along old toys and clothing to donate to the needy, and candles and carol sheets will be on sale.

"The event is an opportunity for the public to make a donation to the needy," Yoko said.

The garden is at the end of Malcolm Road in Poortview. For more information, contact 011 958 1750.
