Christmas message for the community of the West Rand by the Executive Mayor Alderman Faith Lungile Matshikiza of the West Rand district municipality
18 December 2006
To the Community of the West Rand As we enter this period of hope and good will, I do not want to miss the opportunity to send you, from the Mayoral Desk of the West Rand District Municipality, all the best that this Christmas and New Year festive season holds. And we remember the joy and happiness that greeted and ushered in that first Christmas Day 2000 years ago. I cannot forget the hardships and poverty that continue to affect most of our communities in the West Rand. However, these painful conditions notwithstanding, our President did not hesitate to send out his Age of Hope message to the nation as a whole. This hope is based on the unchanging commitment of our national government and all our local municipalities to the development processes that will eventually bring about a better life for all. The war against poverty and unemployment will continue until our freedom from these brutal conditions are eradicated. During this festive season the West Rand District Municipality renews its pledge to keep on keeping on in its efforts to do all it can to alleviate all the negative socio-economic conditions afflicting a great number of our communities. This is our promise and pledge for the coming year. Together we shall win. Let us resolve to hold hands and walk in the same direction and support one another as we proceed along to undo the legacy of our past history. Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year
