Lock up your dogs, residents warned
7 December 2006 By Michael Tsingo RESIDENTS have been asked to keep their dogs at bay during rubbish collection as many waste management bin men are being bitten while on duty. The City's waste services unit has asked people to lock up their dogs or keep them under guard at least for the duration of the refuse collection. And dog owners are warned that they can be fined if their pets attack workers. According to the Mogale City public health by-laws, "Kennel owners must ensure their dogs and cats are kept on the premises and that they do not disturb or hinder the comfort, convenience, peace or quiet of the public. "Failure to comply will lead to the municipality effecting the necessary penalties of fines in this regard." The waste management service has also announced that refuse removals, mass container services, clearing of illegal dumping and street sweeping will continue as normal throughout December, except on Christmas Day. The Luipaardsvlei Landfill Site will be open from 7am to 5.30pm on Mondays to Fridays. On Saturdays and Sundays it will be open from 8am to 5pm. The site will be closed on Christmas Day
