MCLM: SUB-DIRECTORATE: INTEGRATED WASTE MANAGEMENT

1. Background / Problem Area

MCLM has been experiencing a number of problems with our refuse removal core function; this is as a result of regular breakdowns of the refuse removal fleet. The breakdowns are as a result of the ageing fleet; moreover the fact that the entire fleet is ageing makes the turn around time of repairing longer because of the scarcity of spare parts. Plans are underway to procure 5 new trucks to replace the ageing fleet. The new fleet will be delivered within the next two months.

2. The Intervention

In the short term, 5 additional trucks have been procured and the delivery schedule is as follows;
  • We received 3 Trucks on Thursday, 02 February 2006 and 2 additional trucks to be delivered on Monday, 06 February 2006.
  • 5 New Leased Refuse Removal Trucks will be delivered during the month of April 2006.
  • WE ANTICIPATE NORMAL COLLECTION ROUTINE TO BE BACK ON TRACK BY THURSDAY 14 FEBRUARY 2006.
  • In order to speed up the normalization of refuse collection services, refuse will be collected from Monday to Saturday from 1 until 13 February 2006. Or as may be required.
  • We envisage the problem to stabilize within the next few weeks, we would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused during this period
