Cyclists take to Mogale City streets
12 October 2007 By Tabisa Mntengwana A cycle marathon is taking place through Mogale City tomorrow as part of Public Transport Month. Run by the Harmony Cycling Club, the marathon takes place on Saturday, 13 October, with cyclists gathering at the Westonaria Banquet Hall at 8.45am. A scroll will be handed to the team leader, before the marathon begins at 9am. The route passes the Randfontein Traffic Department and goes on to the Randfontein municipal offices, where Randfontein Executive Mayor Zeph Mhlongo will sign the scroll. The cyclists will set off again, arriving at Mogale City Banquet Hall at 10am. Mogale City Executive Mayor Koketso Calvin Seerane and Westonaria Executive Mayor Faith Matshikiza will attend the event. October is set aside nationally to encourage people to use public transport; the aim is to cut down traffic congestion and fight global warming through reducing exhaust emissions. The marathon ends with a lunch at the Mogale City Banquet Hall. For more information contact 011 411 5076.
