Mayoral Golf Day to raise funds for charity
4 October 2007 By George Matlala GOVERNMENT officials and company bigwigs will spend a day on the green to raise money for charity. Sponsored by First National Bank (FNB), the annual Mogale City Mayoral Golf Day takes place at the Krugersdorp Golf Club on Friday, 12 October. Led by Executive Mayor Koketso Calvin Seerane, golfers will include managers of various City departments and utilities, and executives from companies such as Lefika, Troplan, Faritech, and PriceWaterhouseCoopers. Khabisi Mosonkutu, the Gauteng MEC for agriculture, conservation and environment, and Qedani Mahlangu, the Gauteng MEC for local government, are also expected to be on the links. The project co-ordinator in the Mayor's Office, Eric Ngwana, says the main aim of the event is to promote the municipality as an attractive business and tourist destination. "It brings together current and potential suppliers and investors to spend the day getting to know municipal personnel and one another." It also gives Seerane a platform to raise money for various charities in Mogale City as part of the City's social development programme, he notes. It is one of many events that the mayor uses to promote the municipality and to network with business and political acquaintances. Tee off is at 12.30pm; a four-ball costs R5 000. A prize-giving will follow the golf, while the sports memorabilia shop, Golf Encounters, will host an auction to raise funds for charity. Among the items going under the hammer will be portraits of sporting greats like Tiger Woods and Baby Jake Matlala.
