Council appoints new chief Whip
19 October 2009 By Sipho None A NEW chief Whip of the council was named, along with two new appointments to the Mogale City mayoral committee, at the 48th special council sitting held at the Council Chamber. The Speaker, Noluthando Mangole, named David Letsie and Cynthia “Bonny” Thobela as the new members of the mayoral committee, while Sipho Dube, previously the head of infrastructure development, has been made chief Whip. The three councillors are part of the recently reshuffled mayoral committee; Letsie will be responsible for the roads and transport portfolio, while Thobela will head community safety. Letsie replaces Peace Mabe, who is now a fulltime member of the National Council of Provinces, while Thobela takes up the position of the late Lashman Baloyi. Executive Mayor Koketso Calvin Seerane said: “We have appointed the two members of the mayoral committee; however, we will in due course announce their respective roles.” In congratulating the new appointees, the Democratic Alliance leader of caucus, Dennis Pretorius, said: “The Democratic Alliance has been deeply saddened by the status quo of the council and we hope that the new members of the mayoral committee are ready to be part [of changing] the status quo.” The reshuffled members of the mayoral committee are:
