Mogale City Local Municipality would like to warn service providers against a fraudster scamming unsuspecting businesses claiming to act on behalf of the municipality.
The fraudster, who is posing as a municipal official in our Supply Chain Management Division, is issuing false letters of appointment to service providers.
The false letters:
• Carry Mogale City Local Municipality’s name, logo, false email address and contact numbers;
• Notifies service providers that tender RFQ F (R) 11/2015 for manhole covers has been awarded to them without them having submitted a quotation;
• The letters further advice service providers to buy those covers from A-to-Z Covers.
The municipality did not issue such a request for quotation and did not issue any appointment letters in this regard. Please note that the municipality strictly follows official procurement processes. No tender or quotation can be awarded without a bid or quotation process being followed. All official quotations are advertised on Mogale City’s website.
Service providers are requested not to deposit any money into private bank accounts as Mogale City never charges a deposit on the award of a quotation. Service providers are also urged to not deliver any goods if they are not in receipt of an official Mogale City order.
Mogale City Local Municipality condemns such illegal activities and encourages service providers who have already paid the fraudster to immediately contact the nearest police station.
