Apart from it’s global tourism gem in the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site and an assortment of other visitor attractions, the area once again made headlines in the leisure, tourism and hospitality space with the relaunch of the Happy Island Water World Park located in Muldersdrift.

Dignitaries including West Rand District Mayor, Mogale City Executive Mayor Patrick Lipudi, Gauteng Provincial Government representatives and the shareholders of Happy Island on Friday, 20 September attended an exciting ceremony that marked the official opening of South Africa’s biggest water park. This could not have come at a better time than now with schools closing and summer being on our doorstep.

As the presiding local authority, Mogale City Local Municipality’s involvement in the project dates back to 2015 and has been guided by its Tourism Investment Atlas and pull strategy to ensure that the Tourism Sector in the city grows through crowding investment into the tourism sector of the city.

This newest visitor attraction will not only turn Muldersdrift into a destination of choice for quality family experiences in Mogale City but also stimulate local economic development, create jobs and small business opportunities in addition to ensuring continued growth of the local economy.

The adventure and family fun spot first opened its shores last year with a number of Gautengers and tourists from various corners already having a blast at the Happy Island water experience. The water park offers a wonderful fun day out for everyone, young and old with features such as the wave pool, slides and the gravity loop for those looking for that extra shot of adrenaline while more serene options like massage pools are available for those looking to unwind.
